This intensive 5-day course has been specifically designed to provide you with the essential skills, knowledge and confidence needed to run a successful business from home.

Under the expert guidance of Nichola, a cordon bleu trained chef and Great Taste Award winner, you will learn professional level skills and the insider knowledge to help you fulfil that dream.

During the course, you will not only gain the practical skills needed for your business by learning how to create a variety of sumptuous cakes ,  but you will also be guided through both the legal and regulatory obligations of running a business from home to which you must adhere! as well as learning about the necessary Insurances required to protect both you, and your customers.

You will learn how to prepare your work environment to comply with Regulations such as the Government Food Standards Agency's inspection of your work area, as well as more general business related topics such How to price of your cakes as well as sales and marketing advice!

Upon completion, you will also achieve a Cake Academy Wales Diploma Certificate as well as achieving a Level 2 Hygiene Certificate in Catering (a legal requirement for all those working with food in the UK).

During the course you will learn:

  • All Health and Safety considerations for the food industry and achieve a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certification set out by the Food Standards Authority.
  • How to professionally bake, dress and present a variety of cakes including Sponge cakes, Chocolate cakes and Fruit Cakes.
  • How to professionally buttercream cakes using a variety of flavours and techniques
  • How to stack and decorate Wedding cakes 
  • How to use Ganache to give professional sharp edges
  • Professional piping and decoration techniques
  • Legal & Regulatory requirements you must meet 
  • How to price your cakes and deal with customers
  • Sales and marketing advice as well as supplier advice
  • How to deal with food allergies
  • How to transport, stack and deliver your cakes safely, hygienically and professionally

*Please note* this is a professional & intensive course,  irrespective of skill level, you will have the opportunity to maximise your learning experience at a pace suitable for you. The skills learnt on this course require practice! This course will provide you with a solid foundation for you to continue to build upon. We recommend that you never stop learning and never stop trying to perfect your skills!

What do you need to bring?

All ingredients, equipment and tools, including an apron will be provided for you on the day.

All you need to bring is,

  • yourself,
  • a packed lunch , 
  • a notepad and pen to take notes through the session

We want you to ask questions! We want you to have the best chance of success possible! 

There will also be a 30 min break for lunch. We are based in a bespoke studio close to the Gnoll Country Park and Neath town centre, where you will find numerous cafés and places to eat. Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits will be served during the class.

Full payment is required at time of booking. Unfortunately, we cannot refund the course costs if you need to cancel your booking.
